Lodden was originally designed by William Morris in 1884. When Morris & Co. closed down in 1939/40, the printers Stead McAlpine bought the original blocks that they had at their print works. Arthur Steward Liberty came to the agreement with them that a number of Morris designs could be used for Liberty. Here the original design has been transformed into a set of placemats which are ideal for dressing the table ready for meal times.
