It has a long and complex history, formed from the break-up of a much larger château in 1822. The estate’s modern era began in 1976 under the guidance of winemaker Bernadette Villars and famed oenologist Émile Peynaud. Château Chasse-Spleen has 8 hectares of vineyards growing on a classic Médoc soil. Despite a dominance of Cabernet Sauvignon vines on the estate, the blend for 2014 comprises 5% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine was aged in French oak (4% new) for around 14 months and bottled unfiltered.
