Under Charles Palmer the estate tripled its vineyard holdings, acquiring plots across the Cantenac, Issan and Margaux communes. Today, Château Palmer has 66 hectares of vineyards across some of the finest Margaux terroirs, including the gravelly Cantenac plateau. There are 16 separate parcels of vines in all, planted to 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot. The high proportion of Merlot makes Château Palmer unique among left-bank properties. Since 2004, winemaking has been overseen by the energetic Thomas Duroux, who has heralded a golden era for Château Palmer, including its move to biodynamic farming. The 2014 vintage is refined and elegant, with layers of vibrant fruit, coffee bean, truffle, dried flowers and sweet cedar wood, all wrapped in creamy tannins.
