Indeed, during the 19th century, the appellation was as famous as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, but due to the damage of phylloxera and urbanisation on its vineyards, it was almost wiped it off the map. In the local dialect Barcillants means ‘strong and generous winegrowers’, a testament to the local inhabitants who are reflected in the unique character of Cornas wines. This example is made from pure Syrah grapes farmed with limited yields and harvested at optimal maturity.
