The climate here is rich and warm, and the grapes grow at altitude. Mariano Lopez has been winemaker at Castaño for 21 years, and is something of an expert on the Yecla region. He harvested the Macabeo grapes – a Spanish variety also known as Viura – from vineyards located at 500 metres above sea level. The fruit was harvested at optimum ripeness and carefully fermented to extract all the fruits’ intensity.
