The château is in Saint-Estephe, home to five of the classified growth wines. Château Lafon-Rochet is currently owned by the Tesseron family, who also own the famous Château Pontet-Canet. The soils have the usual mix of gravel, sand and clay, although the level of clay here tends to be higher than in the rest of Bordeaux. Third generation winemaker Basile Tesseron blended equal amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for this wine.
