Crafted from pure cashmere for a sumptuously soft handle, this cardigan features a neat crew neckline with button through fastenings and a thick ribbed hemline. Finished with long sleeves, wear with a striped T-shirt and denim at the weekend. John Lewis cashmere is sourced solely from the Gobi desert situated in inner Mongolia, which is considered to produce the best quality fibre in the world. The harsh climate enhances the growth of both an outer coarse fleece and an inner “down” type coat that naturally protects the cashmere goats in this region from the extreme cold. It is the down portion of the coat which provides the smooth fine long hair that we use to knit our sweaters. This fibre is collected by combing the goats during the spring moulting season. Only the finest white haired yarn is selected to ensure the best quality, great colour definition and natural softness. John Lewis cashmere is produced using a unique spinning technique to provide the customer with durable luxurious cashmere that is machine washable. In accordance with John Lewis policy the cashmere goats are farmed under strict welfare rules and the supply chain adheres to the “five freedoms” ensuring the goats are given shelter, protection, food, water and freedom to roam. Full traceability is key to the sourcing of all of our cashmere products.
